Coffee in the United States is served by three kinds of places: national chains with drive-thrus and mobile ordering, independent neighborhood cafes that double as a workspace or a meeting spot, and specialty shops that roast their own beans or buy single-origin lots and brew them by pour-over, espresso or cold brew. Most open between 6 and 7 a.m. on weekdays, slightly later on weekends, and the busiest hour is the commute rush before 9. A drip coffee runs a few dollars, espresso drinks and specialty pours more, and tipping a dollar or a percentage on the card reader is customary but not required. Nearly every cafe offers free Wi-Fi, though some limit laptop seating at peak times or on weekends, and outlets are often the scarce resource.

Hours are published for 5 days a week. On most of those days it is open 11 am–6 pm. It is closed on Tuesday, Wednesday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Kaapicat Cafe at (818) 220-3695; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. More information is available on its website, kaapicatcafe.com.

Ventura is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Traffic in Ventura peaks on weekday mornings and afternoons, so allow extra time then. Amazing food and excellent chai! Atmosphere is cute and well setup. Despite the Ventura charm, don’t get it twisted: Nick is a properly authentic chef! His dosas transport me to the streets of Bangalore itself! We’ll be back for many more.

Having locally made Indian food for a late breakfast is one of my favorite things in the world. So grateful to have this cafe downtown. Best to text their number during June and July 2026 to confirm their hours. Please support this local business!

Nicholas is an amazing owner and always working so hard creating the most tasty chutneys in house!!! The Marsala Dosa is my absolute favorite thing to get downtown Ventura. If you get the opportunity to try this gem , DO IT and you will be grateful. They just added a kids play area outside as well so very family friendly environment :)

I stepped a little outside my usual food rotation and ended up at Kaapicat Cafe in downtown Ventura—and I’m glad I did. I went with the paneer dosa, and honestly, it felt like having dessert for lunch in the best way possible. Warm, flavorful, spicy, and just one of those meals that hits right away. I showed up about 20 minutes before closing (at 1:40pm on a Thursday), so things were already winding down. The outdoor seating had been put away, but I was still able to grab my food and sit over at the tables next door at Moby’s on Main, which worked out just fine. It feels like one of those places that would be great to hang out if you catch it earlier. There’s a bit of an artistic vibe in the decor and the way it’s set up. The interior has those classic old red bricks that are part of the downtown Ventura scene, and I appreciate that they didn’t cover them up with some other type of wall finish. They’re displaying artwork from a local artist, which I always appreciate as I’m a local artist myself. It adds to that relaxed, creative, vibrant downtown feel that I enjoy in spots like this. I’m always happy when a place supports the local art scene.

I am a vegan and am well-versed in what is available in my town. However, this one caught me by surprise. Due to the lack of social media coverage, I was absolutely blown away about this place ! Kaapicat Cafe was amazing—it had excellent dosas and masala. Friendly service, cute decor, and a clean bathroom to boot. The icing on the cake was the rose Matcha.🌹Mmmm…
